OQ (formerly known as Oman Oil Company) collaborated with Sector4 Interactive (S4) to create an innovative, marker-based Augmented Reality (AR) experience. The project aimed to raise awareness through an engaging, WebAR application accessible without the need for any additional downloads, enhancing reach and user interaction.
The primary goal was to increase awareness about OQ's initiatives and offerings. Additionally, the project aimed to deliver an immersive AR experience accessible via web browsers, encourage user engagement through interactive content, and provide a seamless, user-friendly interface.
S4 developed a WebAR application that utilized marker-based AR technology. Users could simply scan a designated marker using their smartphones, instantly triggering interactive 3D content related to OQ’s mission and operations. The key features included marker-based activation for easy access by scanning printed materials or digital markers, interactive 3D content with visually engaging animations and models highlighting OQ’s initiatives, WebAR technology that eliminated the need for app downloads to enhance accessibility and user adoption, and cross-platform compatibility ensuring smooth performance across various devices and browsers.
The project resulted in increased engagement, with interactive AR content effectively capturing user interest. Wide accessibility was achieved through WebAR technology, leading to higher participation rates. Users gained a deeper understanding of OQ’s initiatives through immersive storytelling, enhancing awareness. The experience received strong positive feedback for its innovative approach and ease of use. This project showcased how AR technology can be a powerful tool for raising awareness, creating memorable user experiences, and effectively communicating complex information.
